The Stepmother’s Song

A Poem

Call me monster
make me villain
make me creature of your worst nightmares
Say I made you cinder-girl
Say I led you to those woods, left to die
Say I sent you to the forest with the huntsman
Forget who let me into this house
in the first place
your father, who art so saintly
And history is always written by the victors
and what are you, if not victorious?
No doubt every word you say is true
No doubt your prince…
