My Health Keeps Derailing My Life Over and Over and Over Again

Picking up the pieces again, I guess.

Almost five years ago, I wrote a post called “My Life Has Been Derailed by my Health. I Want to Get it Back.” In it, I talked about my new experience with chronic pain, how it had thrown off everything I’d been working toward, and how I was trying to get better and get my life and my goals back “on track.”

And I did. Get back on track that is. For a little while at least. I started to feel like I had things under control and became cautiously optimistic about the future. But what I didn’t know, what I couldn’t have possibly known at the time, was that this cycle–pain, health issues, getting thrown off, getting back on track, the cautious optimism–would be a cycle that I would repeat over and over and over again.

For the next five years.

After the jaw pain, I started to get back problems. These would flare up and go away, and in the interim something else would go wrong. Various pelvic and feminine health issues, pain in other parts of my body that would come and go, and stomach issues.

I eventually got diagnosed sometime in 2022 with spondyloarthritis (a sort of umbrella term that covers inflammatory arthritis conditions like Ankylosing Spondylitis and Psoriatic Arthritis…
