Pick me up
find a parking lot,
find a place to be alone together
Remember when we almost got caught?
A church parking lot, no less! Lord,
forgive this trespass
Remember when we went to Build-a-Bear
I made one for you that
looked like me
and you made one for me that
looked like you
so we wouldn’t have to sleep alone
And do you want to know a secret?
I still have the necklace you gave me
for my 20th birthday
I (almost) never take it out anymore
but I like knowing it’s there
and do you remember that rainy May day,
when you said
maybe we’ll find our way back to
each other eventually
And I said
I don’t think I will ever
stop hoping for that day
And now it all seems so dramatic
But my God, I know,
you meant it when you said it and
I meant it when I said it
And do you want to know a secret?
When I said we’d stay friends
I knew I was lying
Forgive me this trespass
I meant everything else
